Strange Nazi Symbols and Swastikas Stamped on British Coins

2017-09-15 Fri

Many British coins have been found with extra Nazi symbols on them. A swastika was found on Queen Elizabeth's head on a 50p. Similarly, a Nazi Party symbol - eagle, known as a Reichsadler was inscribed on a 1997 50p and a £2 coin.

Some people think that a Second World War enthusiast is making these marks on coins and putting them back into circulation.

A 50p coin was stamped with a bird carrying a Swastika on one side and while the other side had the initials ‘SS’ that stands for Nazi para-military Schutzstaffel group.

Royal Mint officials have raised their concerns about defacing of coins and said that it is a matter of national coinage’s integrity. They also revealed that defaced coins like these are worthless and cannot be used as legal tender.

Some experts have also stated that a custom stamp was struck using a hammer. The other side of the coin was flattened which implies that a press was not used to support the back.
