Project “Brand Currency” by Designer Jade Dalloul
2017-09-11 Mon
CNN had published an interesting story on 30th August “What if Companies Printed their Own Currencies? “ Experts believe there were over 8,000 producers of private paper currency in the US before the Civil War. A Parisian art director and motion designer Jade Dalloul, tried creating some new designs through his project “Brand Currency”.National mottoes are replaced with company mission statements. Portraits of company owners like Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, Microsoft’s Bill Gates, and Ray Kroc of McDonald’s are depicted instead of statesmen. Elements of the company’s history are also included in these notes. A Shell gas pump, Apple’s corporate campus, the Golden Arches, and a barista preparing a latte are some examples. He told CNN that banknote designs portray the richness of culture, history, and personalities of respective countries. Anti-counterfeiting elements also take up a lot of space.
Technical aspects of modern paper money production have also been adopted like vertical and horizontal reading directions as on the Swiss franc, monetary units used by the U.S. dollar, and the height and width proportions of the euro. Modern printing techniques and anti-counterfeiting devices have also been used. Dalloul claims that the project is an art graduation fictional work.
