The candidate designs for the 2019 America the Beautiful Quarters Program, new candidate designs for the Office of Strategic Services congressional gold medal, and annual reports will be reviewed by the CCAC members on 19th September. The meeting is open to all and will take place in the Second Floor Conference Room, United States Mint, 801 Ninth Street NW, Washington, D.C.

Lowell National Historical Park in Massachusetts, American Memorial Park in the Northern Mariana Islands, War in the Pacific National Historical Park in Guam, San Antonio Missions National Historical Park in Texas, and the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness in Idaho will be celebrated on the 2019 America the Beautiful quarter dollars.

The Office of Strategic Services congressional gold medal will be reviewed for the second time by CCAC. The obverse design of the medal recommended by Commission of Fine Arts was debated in the June session. The CFA went for the design comprising of six OSS operatives at work, which the society thought to be “a little dull.”

The CCAC members went for the obverse design depicting a man and woman in shadowed profile against a globe. A parachutist is also shown in the background.

The committee chose a reverse design featuring a quote from OSS leader Maj. Gen. William J. Donovan, “Only by decisions of national policy based upon accurate information do we have a chance of a peace that will endure.” They also suggested using an OSS frogman on the reverse instead of parachutists.
