Recently, the $ 5 bill was released, but another big news came running in, about the second update to Australian currency with the announcement of a new look $10 note. Reserve Bank of Australia governor Philip Lowe said the updated currency will go into general circulation from September 20 and offer the same features as its less valuable pink sibling.

However, the new notes contain the exact same security benefits of the $5 note, including a clear top to bottom window, and a tactile feature for the visually impaired.

The note will feature two of Australia’s most famous writers — Dame Mary Gilmore and Banjo Paterson.

Dame Mary Gilmore was an Australian writer, poet, and journalist born in 1865. She got recognition for her most famous work ‘No Foe Shall Gather Our Harvest’ which encouraged many people during World War II. Banjo Paterson was an Australian bush poet, writer, journalist and horseman who also served as a soldier. His famous poems include The Man from Snowy River and Waltzing Matilda.

The Reserve Bank has been putting in a lot of effort to ensure the new bank notes can be used in day-to-day transactions across the country. They have been working constantly with cash handlers, businesses and cash and deposit machine manufacturers.

According to the Reserve Bank, the note will have features like a rolling colour effect upon tilting; many security features in the clear top-to-bottom window; a nib of a pen to represent the writers; A flying cockatoo that will move its wings and change colour upon tilting; A sulphur-crested cockatoo; a representative image of the Bramble Wattle; tactile features along the edges; excerpts from The Man from Snowy River; A cockatoo and wattle branch in fluorescent ink, visible under UV light; and many more.

Once the new $10 is released, people will be able to continue using the existing series of banknotes with all previously issued bank notes remaining legal tender.
