Teachers should be the best minds in the country – Dr Sarvapalli RadhakrishnanTeachers Day is celebrated on 5th of September every year in India as a mark of tribute to the contribution made by teachers to the society.
Since 1962 the day commemorates the birthday of Dr Sarvapalli Radhkrishnan. A great Scholar, Philosopher and a staunch believer of education, Dr Radhakrishnan was India's first vice president and first recipient of highest civilian award “Bharat Ratna”.
The birthday of Dr Radhakrishnan came to be celebrated as ‘Teachers Day’ when some of his students requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday, he said, “instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege, if 5th September is observed as Teachers’ Day”.
It is well said that teachers are great than the parents. Parents give birth to a child whereas teachers shape his/her character and make their future bright.
In 2015, a commemorative coin of Dr Radhakrishnan was issued having a face value of INR 10 and 125. It depicts the portrait of Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan with his name in Hindi and English.
India post has also issued a postage stamp in his memory.
On this occasion, Mintage World pays tribute to our nation builders and wishes all the Teachers of India a Happy Teachers Day!!
