2017-09-04 Mon

An upgraded 1,000-forint bank note was released by Hungary as a part of a program that started in 2014. The revised note is similar to its older version but will have new design elements and security features.

The image of King Matthias Corvinus (1458 to 1490) on the obverse; the Hercules Fountain and a Renaissance castle design in Visegrád that Corvinus rebuilt, on the reverse, remain the same.

The new notes’ obverses now feature a raven in ink that changes colour from purple to green, a medieval street scene, and a new see-through register. The reverse also has some improved security features. A new design aspect on the reverse includes the obverse and reverse of a gold coin that was struck by Corvinus. The popular gold coin depicts a standing St. Ladislas holding orb and scepter on the obverse. The reverse of this coin depicts the king’s name and title.

The notes became legal tender on 24th August but will be circulated on 1st March 2018. The current 1,000-forint notes will remain legal tender only till 31st October 2018. Adequate measures are being taken for the smooth transition of the entire process.
