Coin of Mughal Ruler Humayun

Nasir ud din Muhammad Humayun, better known by his regnal name Humayun was the second Ruler of the Mughal Empire. He ruled some part of today's Afghanistan, Pakistan and a part of northern India from 1530-1540. He was the son of Babur.

During the beginning of his reign, like his father Babur he issued silver Shahrukhis, which were introduced by the Timurid ruler Shah Rukh in the early fifteen century AD. These coins are thin broad pieces weighs around 72 grains (4-5 gram). The obverse of these coins is inscribed with king name and title, with mint name and date. And the reverse of the coin is inscribed with Kalima with the name of four Khalifas and their epithets in the margin.

Humayun had also issued some heavier silver coins which are known as Rupee. He has also issued some gold coins of the Shahrukhi type from Agra mint. Some tiny gold coins from Badakshan are also issued by him, these coins are similar to pattern and weight standard of the gold coins of Persia.

This Silver rupee minted in Bangala issued by him was sold for INR 1, 20,000 at Todywalla Auction held in Ahmedabad on 11th February 2017. The obverse of the coin is inscribed with name and title of the king within the circle, mint name and date AH 945 written in the margin. And the reverse of the coin is inscribed with Kalima within the circle, name of the four caliphs in the margin.
