Ala Al-Din Husain Shah was the Sultan of Bengal; his original name was Sayyeed Husain. He founded the Hussain Shahi dynasty. He became the ruler of Bengal after assassinating the Abyssinian Sultan, Shams ud-din Muzaffar Shah, to whom he served as a ‘Wazir’.Reign of Husain Shah was a period of prosperity. He issued three different categories of coins, which have different types within it.
1) Coin with the name of the legend on the obverse and Shahada on the reverse.
2) ‘Victory Coins’.
3) Coin in which ruler's name is spread on both the sides.
This very rare gold tanka minted in Fathabad, which weighs around 10.6g was listed for INR 1, 40,000 to 1, 60,000 at Todywalla Auction. The obverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Al-Sultan Al-Fath Al-Kamru Wa Kamta Wa Jajnagar Wa Urissa Al-Al-Dunya Wa’l Din Abu Muzaffar’. And the reverse of the coin is inscribed ‘Husain Shah Al-Sultan Bin Sayyid Ashraf Al-Husaini Khallada Allah Mulkahu Wa Sultanahu’. Catch out more details about the similar coin> on our site.
