Highlights at the 2017 Champion Auction

Champion Auctions offered a wide range of interesting world coins for sale on 20th August and one of them was the China 1998 500 Yuan Celebration of Spring coin.The 1998 Celebration of Spring 500 yuan is one of the rarest of modern Chinese coins and the offered coin is the highest graded coin of its type. The same coin had come to the market once, 10 years back when it was sold for about $280,000 USD. The mintage limit of this five ounce, .999 fine gold Proof (NGC PF68 UCAM) is only 128 pieces.
The obverse depicts three happy children in traditional dress, painting and flying traditional Chinese kites. Another inscription includes the denomination 500 yuan.
The reverse depicts a traditional Chinese lantern with rays coming from behind. Chinese inscriptions translate to “ the People’s Republic of China” and the year “1998”. The rare coin was offered in an original box and Certificate of Authenticity.
