Coins of Aulikaras
2017-08-23 Wed
There were many small dynasties in Ancient India of which we are not aware. Their existence is known through their coins or inscriptions. One such dynasty is Aulikara, who ruled for 200 years in the region of Malwa between 350 CE to 550 CE. They were an ancient Indian clan who ruled from Mandsaur (Madhya Pradesh). They issued coins which were made of lead and issued both inscribed and uninscribed coins. The symbols which they include on the coins were conch shell, Shrivastava, wheel, Lotus, etc. These symbols are purely Vaishnavite in nature. They also issued coins in the name of Lord Padmanabha, Vishnu.
This probably signifies the strong devotion of Lord Vishnu among the rulers of Aulikaras.
