Taj Al-Din Firuz Shah was the ruler of Bahmani Sultanate, he ruled from 1397 to 1422. His struggle against Vijayanagar Empire which began at the start of his reign continued throughout his rule. With the victories in the year 1398 and 1406, he was defeated in the year 1419.Taj Al-Din Firuz Shah issued coin in all the three metals: - gold, silver, and copper. Silver tanks issued by his are of two varieties. Coins with the Kunya, Abul Muzaffar; written on the obverse, and coins with Kunya written on the reverse side. Coins with Kunya written on the obverse are common and coins with Kunya written on the reverse are rare. Kunya is a component of the Arabic name, a type of epithet, the name of an adult-derived from his or her eldest child.
This mintless less type gold tanka was sold for INR 3, 50,000 at Todywalla Auction. The obverse side of the coin is inscribed as ‘Al-Mutansir Billah Al-mannan Al-Wathiq Bi-Tayid Al-Rahman Abul Muzaffar’. And reverse side of the coin is inscribed as ‘Taj Al-Dunya Wa’l Din Firuz Shah Al-Sultan’ with the AH year 806.
