2017 ANA Show Overview
2017-08-21 Mon
ANA World’s Fair of Money that was held from 1st to 5th August in Denver received mixed reactions. Dealers had to wait in long queues to buy the 225th Anniversary Enhanced Uncirculated Coin Set. Each one was allowed to buy 500 sets for $29.95 each. The status went to “currently unavailable” very quickly. The secondary market for these coins opened up and dealers canceled orders with the U.S. mint. The product launch took over the excitement of the bourse floor. Online Grading submissions clogged the internet. On-site grading is intended to offer liquidity for coins and to provide fresh material. When this is affected the business of dealers is also affected. Many also felt that the show location in Denver was not suitable for organizing such a grand show. Many of them opted for online sales, rather than visiting the show.
Heritage made $30.8 million while Stack’s Bowers Galleries made $20 million. A 1794 Flowing Hair silver dollar graded PCGS MS-64 with a Certified Acceptance Corp. sticker was sold for $2.82 million.
