Gold Mohur of Mughal Emperor Jahandar Shah

Jahandar shah sat on the Mughal throne in the year 1712 AD and ruled it till 1713 AD. The full title of Jahandar Shah was Shahanshah-i-Ghazi Abu'l Fath Mu'izz-ud-Din Muhammad Jahandar Shah Sahib-i-Quran Padshah-i-Jahan. After the death of Bahadur Shah, his four sons fight amongst themselves for the throne. The one who succeeded was Jahandar shah who sat on the Mughal throne with the help of Zulfiqar Khan.

Jahandar Shah was a weak and degenerate prince who devoted his life for pleasure. He neglected his state affair and spent most of the time in entertainment. During his reign, the administration was in the hand of Zulfiqar Khan, who was his wazir. In the year 1713, he was defeated by Farrukhsiyar, the second son of Azim-ush-shan in the battle at Agra with the help of Sayyid brother.

This gold mohur minted in Surat was sold for INR 1, 00,000 at Todywalla Auction held in Bangalore on 29th July 2017. The obverse of the coin is inscribed with the name and title of King with AH year 1124. And the reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Sanah 1 Ahad Manus Maimant Julus Zarb Surat’.
