Chalukyas of Vengi was a ruling dynasty in South India between 700 CE to 1200 CE. Initially, they were the governors of the Chalukyas of Badami in the Deccan region. Subsequently, they became a sovereign power and ruled the Vengi region of present-day Andhra Pradesh until c.?1130 CE. They continued ruling the region as feudatories of the Cholas until 1189 CE. Their kingdom ultimately succumbed to the Hoysalas and the Yadavas.The given arsenous copper coin in the picture belongs to Chalukyas of Vengi. It is weighing around 2.24 grams. The obverse of the coin depicts roaring lion facing right, dagger in its front and Brahmi legend 'Satya' above. The reverse has a lotus flower in a profile, placed above a wheel in axial view, flanked by two lamp stands, enclosed in a dotted circle.
This coin is sold for INR 1,30,000 in the Classical Numismatics Gallery on 12th August 2017.
