Security Features on Latest Banknotes of New Zealand

2017-08-08 Tue

The latest Banknotes released by New Zealand come with a holographic window, raised ink, and shining to reduce counterfeiting activities. To make the general public aware of these features and help them easily differentiate between real and fake notes, a special video was released.

The general public has been asked to look, feel and tilt the notes to identify security features. A holographic window should have a map of New Zealand, a bird's silhouette, and a three-dimensional feature of its value, all inside the edges of the window.

The raised ink can be felt on the denomination and letters at the top. A bright shining bar will appear across the bird's silhouette, upon tilting the notes. The shifting of colours can be seen on the holographic window to show more details.

The Reserve Bank officials revealed that New Zealand has low counterfeit rate when compared to international standards. They believe that it is important to help citizens identify security features to curb counterfeiting activities.

New Zealand's latest $5 note received “Banknote of the Year” award in an international competition in April 2016 at the annual meeting of International Bank Note Society. They are designed and are printed by Canadian Banknote Company in Canada.
