1900 Lafayette Dollar to be Auctioned

Rago Arts is going to offer a collection of 25 1900 Lafayette silver dollars kept in Capital Plastics holder on 24th August. The collection has an estimate of $8,000 to $12,000. The obverse of each coin features the portrait of George Washington and Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette or Lafayette. Other inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and LAFAYETTE DOLLAR.

The reverse depicts Lafayette riding a horse like the statue of Lafayette in Paris made by Paul Wayland Bartlett as a gift of the American people. Other inscriptions include ERECTED BY THE YOUTH OF THE UNITED STATES IN HONOR OF GEN. LAFAYETTE, PARIS and 1900. The mintage limit of these coins was 32,026 pieces.

Several other interesting coins will be offered at the auction like a 1902 Coronet gold $10 eagle, 1928 Hawaiian Sesquicentennial half dollar, Undated (1783) doubled-headed Washington cent, Series 1865 First National Bank of Frederick (Maryland) $1 national bank note, Friedberg 380a, 1710 British gold guinea, Thracian or Scythian Greek gold stater etc.
