The American Topical Association has revealed that over 30 countries have issued stamps dedicated to the sport of surfing. In 1971, French Polynesia issued the first surfing postage stamp. A 2007 issue from the same postal administration features three colourful surfboards. New Zealand released similar stamps in June 2017. A $2.30 stamp in the Surf Breaks issue depicts surfers on the beach. Australia released Surfing Santa Christmas stamp in 1971. Micronesia released the biggest set of 14 stamps dedicated to surfing on 26th January 2009. It is believed that surfing began during ancient times.
