Coinage of Akbar is the most beautiful amongst all the Mughal Emperor. His coinage provides a powerful reflection of his personality. Various designs over Mughal coins make them look more beautiful.This gold mohur issued by him was minted in Agra. Agra was the primary mint of Mughals, from the time of Babar and Humayun. Akbar issued gold, silver and copper coins from this mint. Gold coins from this mint were issued from AH 970 to AH 989 AH. Silver coins were minted from AH 963 to AH 985, and the copper coins minted from AH 965 to AH 989. Ilahi coins issued by Akbar were issued after AH 989. Mint Epithet ‘Dar-ul-Khilafat’ appears on the Mughal coins between AH 976 and AH 985.
This gold Mohur minted at Agra was issued by his during the 49th year of reign during the Persian month ‘Tir. The obverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Allah Akbar Jalla Jalalahu’ and the reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Persian Month, Ilahi date and Mint name.
