Presidential Election 2017

Today the Presidential Election voting is going to be held, this event takes place in the last five days of President's incumbent term. This incumbent make's re-election eligible, as there are no term limits for president's position exist in India.

President, the first citizen of India is a nominal head of the state. He is elected by an Electoral College consisting elected members from both the houses of parliament, legislative assemblies of the 29 states and Union Territories of Delhi and Puducherry.

As per the election of 2017, this Electoral College consists of 776 MPs and 4120 MLA's. The totals strength of Electoral College is 10, 98,882 votes. Halfway mark is 5, 49,422 votes. But after state assembly election and by-polls of 2017, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is short of nearly 20,000 votes.

The voting for this election is held by secret ballot. The way of electing President is provided by Article 55 of the Constitution.

For this presidential election, 95 candidates filed nomination for the top constitutional post, of which 93 were rejected on various grounds. This filtering of candidates resulted in leaving only Ram Nath Kovind and Meira Kumar.

Let's cross our finger and wait to see who will be our next President after Pranab Mukherjee because we have two very promising candidates for this most prestigious position of India.
