Zeus, the king of Gods of Mount Olympus was the sky and thunder God of Ancient Greece. Around 435 BC, a great statue of Zeus was built by Phidias (Greek Sculptor). The Statue is assumed to be 13 meters tall and was made up of Ivory and gold plates on the wooden frame.

Due to its mesmerizing height, the Statue of Zeus is considered as one of the wonders of the Ancient World.

The Republic of Congo issued a stamp on this masterpiece of Zeus of 60 Franc.

The Statue of Zeus at Olympia was destroyed by fire in the fifth century A.D and there were no copies ever found. All the details of the statue today are taken from depictions on coins and ancient Greek descriptions!

Archaeologists discovered Phidias' workshop in the 1950s. During their excavation, they found the tools that he used to create the Statue of Zeus at Olympia.
