New composite banknotes of the third generation will be released in Armenia in 2018. These new notes will gradually replace the current ones. The new notes will mark the 25th anniversary of the Armenian dram.

The printing office will be chosen through a tender. The notes will have special security features and will be more durable. There are official reports that 2,000 drams banknote will also be issued and the issuance of 100,000 drams will be discontinued.

1,000 drams banknote will feature Paruyr Sevak, 2,000 drams banknote will depict Tigran Petrosyan, 5,000 drams banknote will feature William Saroyan, 10,000 drams banknote will feature Komitas, 20,000 drams banknote will depict Hovhannes Aivazovsky and the 50,000 drams banknote will feature Saint Gregory. A contest has been announced for selecting sketches for the banknotes.
