Princely State of Loharu

This Princely State of India was a part of the Punjab agency. The State gets its name from the Lohars (local blacksmiths) who were employed in the minting of coins for the Jaipur State.

Loharu was founded by Ahmad Baksh Khan in 1803 when he received this town from British East India Company as a reward for his service against the Jat rulers of Bharatpur. The later Nawab of this state was executed by the British Raj for getting involved in the conspiracy to kill the British Resident to Delhi, Sir William Frazer. Later on, the Nawab’s of this state was kept under surveillance after the Indian Rebellion of 1857.

The palace of its Nawab was once home to the famous poet Mirza Ghalib who was the Nawab's son-in-law. This stamp has also issued stamps, the above-shown stamp is a revenue stamp printed to collect revenue for the state. The stamp depicts the portrait of Nawab ‘CAPT. NAWAB MIRZA AMIN-ID-DIN AMAD KHAN BAHADUR’.

This state became a part of Independent Union of India in 1947. Many from the ruling family of this state who were basically Muslim inhabitant, re-settled in Lahore, Pakistan but the Royal Family stayed in India after the Independence.
