A public auction would be held by Robert A. Siegel Auction Galleries in New York City on 25th and 26th July. The sale would offer 19th- and 20th-century United States stamps along with many other philatelic items. The sale of these classic items would benefit the Smithsonian National Postal Museum. Highlights include no-gum examples of the 1847 5¢ dark brown Benjamin Franklin in the “dot in S” variety and the 10¢ black George Washington.

Another star stamp is a 1¢ Fast Lake Navigation stamp with centre inverted, from the 1901 Pan-American set. This error stamp comes with a light machine cancel. It comes with a 1967 Philatelic Foundation certificate and a 2002 certificate from Professional Stamp Experts. It has a Scott catalogue value of $25,000.

Modern error stamps to be offered at the auction include three panes of different U.S. commemorative stamps from 1996 without their perforations, and a pane of the 2001 34¢ Lucille Ball self-adhesive commemorative with without the die cutting.

Another pane of six 2013 upright $2 Jenny Invert stamps is also being offered. It is one of the 100 purposely printed stamps with the Curtiss Jenny biplane upright. 2.2 million normal panes show the plane flying upside down. The unused stamps come with congratulatory printed filler card that was in the sealed envelope containing these stamps. The stamps have a Scott catalogue value of $75,000.
