Orchha is a state of beauty and mysteries which will leave you spellbound. This state is located it the north-central part of Indian which is surrounded by forest. The main features of Orchha are its palace. This man-made architecture is a beauty which explains the engineering brilliance of its time and glory of their Kings.

Orchha is the oldest and most high ranking Bundela state founded by a Gharwar Rajput. During the time of Mughal expansion, this state came under the Delhi supervision. During the rise of Maratha Empire, only this state of Bundel was not under their control. But even this state was not able to ditch the net woven by East India Company, it came under English authority in the 19th century.

Orchha has vibrant history and even its coinage is fascinating. The above shown silver rupee is one of the best examples to learn about Orchha's Coinage. This silver coin was minted during the reign of King Vikramajit Mahendra. Its obverse depicts the King's name, title and Shah Alam II name are inscribed in Arabic script with Anno Hijri date (1214/46). The reverse of this coin depicts Regnal date, mint mark, zarb, and Julus formula.

The coinage of Orchha was called Gaja Shahi because of the gaja or mace which was its symbol.
