To observe the 1,950th death anniversary of the two renowned saints Peter and Paul, Vatican City issued a ringed-bimetallic commemorative €2 coin. The obverse features Saint Peter and Saint Paul and their symbols - keys and the sword respectively. Other inscriptions include CITTA DEL VATICANO, 1950o DEL MARTIRIO DEI SANTI PIETRO E PAOLO, 2017, the mint mark R and the name of the artist G. TITOTTO. The reverse depicts the common European map design. The 12 stars of the European flag are shown on both sides. Mintage limit of this 8.5 grams coin is 105,000 pieces.

The Church of Rome was founded on these two Patrons. They proclaimed and witnessed the Gospel among the people. After they sacrificed their lives, they stuck to their mission of faith and charity. It is said that Peter was crucified upside down and Paul was beheaded.
