Highlights of Spink Auctions Scheduled on 5th July

On 5th July, Spink Auctions is going to sell a wide variety of rare and interesting coins. Celtic coins, the remaining coins from the Lord Stewartby Collection and a collection of Historical Medals are some of the highlights.Most of the offered Celtic coins were lucky finds of metal detectorists. One of the highlights is a very rare Cantii, uninscribed coinage (c. 50-25BC), silver Unit and. It currently belongs to the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford and was found in Kent. It is the first known example of its type to have full iconography over the horse. It does not have the full head of a bucranium but has a pair of bull’s horns with annulet tips.
Other highlights of the auction include a Royal Geographical Society Patron’s Medal awarded to Edward Ayearst Reeves, an Eire, Padraig H. Pearse 50th anniversary of the Easter Rising medallion from 1966 in gold; a Charles II Guinea from 1663 with an estimated value of £25,000-30,000.
