A tenth-ounce American Liberty fractional .9999 fine gold coin with a face value of $10 will be produced by the US Mint in 2018. The designs would be similar to the obverse and reverse designs of the 2017-W American Liberty $100 gold coin which celebrates the 225th anniversary of the U.S. Mint and contains 1 troy ounce of .9999 fine gold. The proposed design was reviewed by the Commission of Fine Arts on 15th June and further noted by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee on 21st June. Other details like the mint marks, type of finish, mintage limit etc. have not yet been revealed. The coins would be struck on the same .9999 fine gold blanks that were used to produce the 2008 American Buffalo gold $5 coins.
The obverse features Liberty as an African-American woman wearing a crown of five-pointed stars. The reverse depicts an American eagle in flight, its wings are pointed downward.
