Gupta Gold Coin got sold for 2,20,000

Gupta coins is an ocean of gold! Because of their mastery in the artistic style of representation of the motifs and metallurgy, they deserve of be the best amongst all the ancient Indian coins.Well, one of these Gupta coins was sold for INR 2,20,000 in the recent Todywalla Auctions. The Gold Dinar belonged to Chandragupta II weighing around 7.66 grams. The obverse of the coin depicts standing king looking left holding lighted altar. An attendant stands behind him holding the royal parasol (Chhatra) for king and traces of Brahmi legend are seen ‘Kshitimvijitya (Sucharitairdivam jayati) Vikramadityah’. The reverse has Goddess Sri Lakshmi standing in profile, holding long-stemmed flower and noose, tamgha in field left and Brahmi legend ‘Vikramadityah’ in the right field.
