Princely state of Cooch Bihar

This Gold Nazarana Mohur was issued during the reign of Jitendra Narayan.This Mohur is the coronation issue; it is dated as ‘Rajashaka' Era. The obverse of this coin depicts coat of arms of the state with lion and elephant supporting it. The reverse of this coin depicts a legend in Bengali "Sri Sri Jitendra Narayana Bhoop Rajashaka 404".
The local coins of this state were demonetized in 1866. The only coinage that was struck in this state was for Maharaja of Cooch Bihar for special coronation issue. This state became the Princely Kingdom under East India Company after the King of Bhutan attacked and captured Cooch Bihar in 1772-173.
This coin of Cooch Bihar was sold for INR 8,50,000 by Classical Numismatic Gallery.
