2017-06-01 Thu
What is the first thing you drink when you get up in the morning?Umm… Milk, right? We have it daily! But do you know the importance of drinking milk every day? According to Ayurveda, milk provides us with special and unique nutrition that cannot be derived from any other type of food. Cow milk is described as Amrit by the ancient scriptures of Indian Mythology.
“Amritam Vai gvam khriramityah tridshadhip ,
tasmad dadatim yo dhenumamatrim sa Praychhti”.
(Mahabharatha Anu.65-46)
This Shloka of Mahabharatha means:
“Cow’s milk is Amrita. This has been stated by Indra, the king of gods. Therefore if one donates a cow, he donates Amrita”.
World Milk Day is celebrated on every 1st June. The day is intended to draw the attention on the dairy sector.
Do you know that India ranks first in the global milk production? India has around 130000 dairy cooperative societies at the village level from which majority of it comes Uttar Pradesh, Andra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Punjab.
To enjoy the privilege of the world’s largest milk production, India Post issued a stamp. It depicts female carrying a can of milk
Since cow is considered as auspicious in Hinduism so is the cow's milk. We have a very beautiful Gold Dinar from Samatata region. The Obverse of it depicts Avalokiteshvara 'Manjushri', seated cross-legged on a lotus, holding a sword, flanked by a flaming Trisula and a flaming sword; Brahmi legend Ratnattraya above. While the Reverse has cow and a calf, both seated in couchant position, with the cow turning its head to lick the calf; a crescent moon with a dot above and stylised representation of a mountain below.
So let’s have a glass of Milk daily and celebrate world milk day!
