2017-06-01 Thu

The 75th anniversary of the Dieppe Raid has been observed by the Royal Canadian Mint by releasing a special silver collector coin. The country had to bear heavy losses during Canada’s first army combat mission of the Second World War. As a mark of respect for the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives, a framed version of this coin was presented by the mint to the Moncton Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. Many esteemed dignitaries were present during the presentation.

It was a historical event for Canadian Military as it helped Canada and its Allies achieve success in later operations like the D-Day offensive. The Mint officials are hoping to preserve the memory of the martyrs through the release of these beautiful coins.

The reverse features a Canadian soldier asking his fellow teammates to move towards the heavily-fortified Casino bravely. The obverse features the portrait of King George VI, who reigned Canada during the Second World War. The coin belongs to the Second World War Battlefront Series, has a mintage of 7,500 and can be purchased for $92.95.
