England’s Elizabeth Fry Paper £5 Note Withdrawn

As per an official notice released by Bank of England, the country’s paper £5 note, featuring Elizabeth Fry, was withdrawn on 5th May. Retailers and the public have been asked to stop accepting these notes as payment or change after that date.The latest polymer £5 note featuring Sir Winston Churchill will be replacing the old ones. Exchange of old Fry £5 notes will keep continuing at all banks. More than half of these old notes have been already destroyed but around 160 million are still circulating.
The latest notes were issued on 13th September 2016. These new notes are supposedly cleaner, safer and stronger. There has been a controversy that these notes are made using animal fat.
