Princely State of Chhuikhadan

Last century has seen major turns in the world's social, economic and political development. It is not surprising to acknowledge- in reference to these changes - that many empires under British control rebelled and acquired their independence. One such Empire was India- The most precious Jewel in the English Crown.

India under English rule was divided in Presidency and Princely State. It is fascinating to study the perception of that time through these Princely States. Amongst these states was Princely states of Chhuikhadan, it was a non-gun salute state in the Chhattisgarh State Agency.

The Ruler of this Princely state was called ‘Kunwar'. They belong to Bairagi dynasty known as Mahants. This dynasty was Chiefs under the Bhonsles of Nagpur. The first Chief was Mahant Rup Das in 1750 CE. In 1865 this chief of Chhuikhadan was recognised as feudatory by British after the defeat of Marathas.

This state like all the Princely state issued stamp which circulated within the state borders. These stamps were Court fees stamp issued to collects fee or tax.

This state joins the independent Union of India in 1948 when the last ruling chief Mahant Ritu Purna Kishore Das signed the Instrument of Accession.
