Princely state of Balasinor State
2017-04-15 Sat
In the 19th century, India was divided into Provinces and Princely states under the jurisdiction of the British government. Amongst these princely states was the state of Balsionar which was a 9 gun salute state belonging to the Rewa Kantha Agency of Bombay Presidency. The Royal lineage of this state belongs to the family of Babi or Babai (Pashtun tribe) from Junagadh. It was established by Sardar Muhammed khan Babi 1758. This state issued revenue stamps like the other Princely states during British Raj. We have learned before that revenue stamps are used for tax or fees collection within the border of the State.
This revenue stamp was issued from 1934 to 40 on a woven paper. This stamp depicts the image of Nawab Saheb Babi Sri Amietkhanji in the centre enclosed by initial and denomination in Gujarat and Roman script.
The Kings of this state hold the title of Nawab during the English rule. The state joined the Independent Union of India on 10th June 1948 AD.
