Banknote with Blanket Impression Error
2017-03-06 Mon
The Series 1977 $10 Federal Reserve note features a blanket impression error or an “offset printing” error. It has a normal face and back printings. A second version of the face is also seen on the back which is on the wrong side and is backwards. Some think that the image could have bled through which is not really the case. The obverse and reverse of the 32-note sheets were printed separately. The reverse was printed first and then the obverse was printed with a good time period in between. Curved printing plates were mounted on a roller and a second roller of equal size was covered with a flexible blanket. There was a time gap of a second or less when the sheets passed between the two rollers. There was a gap in the sequence of sheets or one of the sheets was folded resulting in this error. This particular one was sold for $164.50 on 28th February at Heritage’s Internet Auction.
