The Geeta Govinda is a work composed by the 12th-century Indian poet, Jayadeva. It describes the relationship between Krishna and the Gopis of Vrindavana, and in particular one, Gopi named Radha.

The Gita Govinda is organized into twelve chapters. Each chapter is further subdivided into twenty-four divisions called Prabandhas. The prabandhas contain couplets grouped into eights, called Ashtapadis. It is mentioned that Radha is greater than Krishna. The text also elaborates the eight moods of Heroine, the Ashta Nayika, which has been an inspiration for many compositions and choreographic works in Indian classical dances.

India Post issued a beautiful Miniature sheet depicting the 11 avatars of Vishnu:- (1) Narasimha (Man-Lion), (2) Pralhad, Balarama, (3) Buddha, (4) Rama, (5) Kalki, (6) Jaydeva, (7) Kurma, Tortoise, (8) Varaha, Boar, (9) Matsya, Fish, (10) Vamana, (11) Parshurama. Each of the stamps has a value of INR 55.

The Miniature sheet is a fine design; it looks like a manuscript which gives an ancient touch to it. Each avatar is finely depicted with its detailing in a drawing.

It is a highly attractive miniature sheet of art! Aren’t you eager to have it in your own collection?
