Rare Oil City Bank $5 Proof to be Auctioned

Stack's Bowers Galleries Official Currency Auction will be offering a very rare $5 Colour proof from the Oil City Bank of Oil City, Pennsylvania at the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Spring Expo from March 29th to 31st.This is the only proof produced by American Bank Note Company and features a green border along with protector inks and black coloured Civil War-themed vignettes. The vignettes feature Union soldiers reading letters around a camp fire, titled "News From Home". Two girls are depicted near the portrait of George Washington seated at a desk.
The same proof note was offered at an auction in January 2005 for $3,225 USD. The Choice Uncirculated graded will have a pre-auction estimate of $4,000-$6,000.
