“Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love.”–J. K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Valentine’s Day is the day of love, a festival to celebrate romance, a day to express your heart. Though associated with expressing love to your lover, some people celebrate it with their parents or friends whom they love deeply too. Or some just eat dates (khajur) to actually truthfully say that they did have a ‘date’ on Valentine’s Day.
Now let’s know where this day came from. There are many stories and rituals from across the world that are considered to be the probable origins of this day. The Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred in the 3rd Century.
The history of this lovely day is much bloodied. We have an insightful video that traces this day through the ages.
Hrvatska Posta (Croatia) issued this 3.10 Croatian Kuna commemorative stamp of Saint Valentine’s Day on 3rd February 2017.
