Coins of Delhi Sultan Muizz Al-din Kaiqubad

Muizz Al-Din Kaiqubad (AH 686-689; AD 1287-1290) was the sultan of Delhi, he was the son of Bughra Khan; an independent sultan of Bengal, as well as grandson of Ghiyas ud din Balban. He was the tenth sultan of Mamluk dynasty (Slave dynasty).

He issued coins in gold, silver, copper and billon. His gold and silver coins were minted at Hadrat Delhi. His Silver one-third, one-sixth, one-twelfth Tankas are rare. In billon coin, he issued only three-gani bilingual coin. Legend of this coin is written in Arabic and Nagari. This coin reads as ‘Al-Sultan Al-Azam Muizz Al-Dunya Wa Al-Din’ written in Arabic on the obverse. And ‘Kaiqubad’ is written in Arabic along with ‘Sri-Sultan Muizuddin’ in Nagari. His copper Paika weighs around 2.6-2.8 instead of the usual 4.2g.

One of his gold tanka minted at Hadrat Delhi was listed of INR 80,000-90,000 at Todywalla Auction held in Pune on 10th December 2016. The obverse of this coin reads as ‘Al-Sultan Al-Azam Muizz Al-Dunya Wa Al-Din Abul Muzaffar Kaiqubad Al-Sultan’ on the obverse and ‘Al Imam Legend with Name of Khalif Al Mustasim’ mint name and date in the margin, on the reverse. This coin is very rare.
