“I didn’t tell a soul, and they all promised to keep it a secret” – Lucy Ricardo.A landmark American television sitcom, I love Lucy is one of the most loved series. The story is set in a New York apartment building and revolves around the lives of Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball), her husband Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz) and their best friends and landlords Ethel Mae Potter Mertz (Vivian Vance) and Frederick Hobart Mertz (William Frawley).
This black and white series ran on Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) from 15th October 1951 – 6th May 1957. The show ran for three more years in modified versions. It has won five Emmy Awards and for four out of its six seasons, it topped the charts. The show is still rerun in many countries and is watched by at least 40 million viewers each year.
Lucy gave birth to Little Ricky this day in 1953 and 44 million people were watching it (72% of all US homes with TV)!
United States Postal Service issued this 33 cents commemorative stamp on the television series I Love Lucy on 26th May 1999.
