Brother-in-law of Queen Elizabeth II, Lord Snowdon Expires

On 13th January, Lord Snowdon the former brother-in-law of Queen Elizabeth II and society photographer expired at the age of 86. Many Great Britain postage stamps feature his photographs like the 1981 stamp celebrating the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer.1998 memorial stamp for Princess Diana and the 2002 issue celebrating the 50th anniversary of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II (2019) also feature his photographs.
He is known for taking photographs of celebrities like Charlie Chaplin which was featured on the 29-penny stamp in the 1985 set celebrating the British Film Year. He recently took a photo of Sue Ryder that was depicted on a non-denominated first-class stamp in the British Humanitarians set issued in March 2016. He designed the Snowdon Aviary at the London Zoo, which is featured on a 2012 British stamp under the A-Z series.
Lord Snowdon began professional photography in 1952 for the magazine Tattler. He married Queen Elizabeth’s sister Princess Margaret but the couple divorced in 1978.
