Bronze Sestertius By the Roman Emperor Hadrian to be Auctioned

On 15th February, Dix Noonan Webb’s auction is going offer 194 Roman bronze coins, 75 years after the collection was formed within a period of 8 years. The collection is named as “A Distinguished Collection of Roman Bronze Coins, the Property of a Gentleman”.The 134 to 138 bronze sestertius featuring the eminent ruler Hadrian on the obverse are some of the highlights from the collection. The reverse features the renowned travelling ruler addressing his soldiers.
The coin is the finest known example of this type with a dark patina on a Very Fine coin. It bought at an auction in 1939 and today has an estimated value of £3,000.
