2017-01-05 Thu
The New York International Numismatic Convention (NYINC) will be held in Manhattan from 12th to 15th January. The Stack’s Bowers Galleries’ auction will be offering a wide range of ancient coins along with rare modern coins for sale at the event.A Tetradrachm of Akragas (present-day Agrigento, Sicily), issued ca. 420–410 B.C. Graded Choice VF is going to be one of the highlights. Coins from Sicily are very popular and this coin is expected to fare well at the auction.
The highlight of the modern coins section is an 1839-dated 15-piece Proof set from Great Britain, containing all denominations of that year for circulation in Proof format along with a pattern gold unused 5 Pounds. The 5 pounder is famous for its “Una and the Lion” design by William Wyon. All the coins in the set are certified by NGC and have similar toning patterns which prove the fact that they belong to the original set.
