Greece Coin Celebrates Composer Dimitri Mitropoulos

A new circulating commemorative €2 coin was issued by Greece on 16th December celebrating the life and works of the famous composer, conductor, pianist Dimitri Mitropoulos along with his 120th birth anniversary.The obverse depicts the portrait of Mitropoulos with musical notes in the background. Other inscriptions include the Greek wordings that translate to “120 years of the birth of Dimitri Mitropoulos”, “Hellenic Republic”, 2016, a palmette which is the Mint mark of the Greek Mint and the monogram of the artist, George Stamatopoulos. The reverse features the common European map design. The 12 stars of the European flag appear on both sides of the 8.5 grams coin and the mintage limit is set as 750,000 coins.
