Malwa Sultan Mahmud Shah minted silver coins in round and square flans.

For round coins, he issued tanka, half-tanka, and one-eighth tanka. For square coins, he issued quarter-tanka and one-eighth tanka.

The round tanka weighs 11 g and was issued in two varieties: one with legends inscribed in a circle and another with legends inscribed in a double square within a circle.

The round half-tanka weighs 5.4 g, and the round one-eighth tanka weighs 1.23 g.

Square-shaped coins were posthumous issues, minted in the Hijri years 873 and 874. The square quarter-tanka weighs 2.7 g, and the square one-eighth tanka weighs 1.2 g.

The square tankas bearing the date 874 were issued by his son Ghiyat Shah.

This 11.12 g 'Sikandar al Sani' type silver tanka was issued by Mahmud Shah and minted at Shadiabad.

Obverse: Al-Sultan Al-Azam Ala Al-Dunya Wa'l Din Khalji Abul Muzaffar Mahmud Shah Khallada Allah Khilafatahu.

Reverse: Sikandar Al-Thani Yamin Al-Khilafa Nasir Amir Al-Muminin
