Indo-Greek king Menander I Soter, also known as Milinda, ruled a large part of Indian Territory from the 2nd century BC to the 1st century AD. He is considered the greatest king of the Indo-Greek Empire.Extremely rare square copper heavy unit of Menander, weighing 44.48 grams, was sold for INR 201000 at an auction held in Indore on 31 August 2024.
Obverse: Bust of Athena in Boiotian helmet facing to right, Greek legend “BASILEOS SOTEROS MENANDROY” around.
Reverse: Horse rearing to the right, monogram below, Kharoshthi legend “Maharajasa tratarasa Menamdrasa”.
