Commemorative stamp of Louis Pasteur

Louis Pasteur, born on 27 December 1822, was a French chemist and renowned microbiologist. He was known for his discoveries of the principles of vaccination, microbial fermentation and Pasteurization, named after him.
br> His chemistry research led to understanding the causes and prevention of diseases. He found vaccines for rabies and anthrax and saved millions of lives.

Pasteur is one of the fathers of the germ theory of diseases, a medical concept at the time. His experiments showed that diseases could be prevented by killing or stopping germs. He invented the technique of treating wine and milk from bacterial contamination, called Pasteurization.

He even contributed to the field of chemistry. He investigated optical isomerism, his work showed a path to the current understanding of a fundamental principle in the structure of organic compounds.

He was the director of the Pasteur Institute until his death on 28 September 1895.

The given stamp is a commemorative stamp of Louis Pasteur and was issued on 30 March 1993 by Cuba. This multicolour stamp has a face value of 20 Cuban centavos. The stamp portrays an image of Pasteur to the left with his name written to his right, with the name of the country in the top right corner and face value in the top left corner.
