The year ‘1968’ was declared as an International Human Rights Year by UNESCO. The main goal was to bring the state of human rights throughout the world. 10 December is observed as Human Rights day every-year. This is the day when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. Until the 2010s, Honduras faced serious issues such as unlawful and arbitrary killings by police and others; corruption; institutional weakness of the justice system; harsh anti-people policy and at times life-threatening prison conditions. The other Human rights problems include violence against detainees, harassment of journalists, child prostitution, human trafficking, encroachment of lands, child labour, violence against LGBT, etc. In South Africa, Human Rights Day is celebrated on 21st March as a remembrance of the Sharpeville massacre.
