Emperor Hadrian Gold Aureus Sold for INR 1,00,000

The Roman Empire was founded by Augustus Caesar when he proclaimed himself as king of Rome in 31BC and ended with the fall of Constantinople in 1453CE.

Hadrian was the ruler of the Roman Empire who assumed control over the vast Roman Emperor after the death of his father, Emperor Trajan. As an emperor, Hadrian tied to maintain his assessment and moved beyond the stereotype of good and bad emperors. His reign marked the height of the Roman Empire.

This gold Aureus, which weighs around 70.5g, was issued by Emperor Hadrian during his rule in Roman Empire. The obverse side of this coin depicts the Bust of the emperor facing right. The reverse side of the coin portrays a standing Roman soldier in military dress facing left, raised right hand and holding a spear in the left.

This gold dinar sold for INR 1,00,000 in an auction of Todywalla held in Mumbai on 17 September, 2022.
