Mae Carol Jemison was an American engineer, physician, and former NASA astronaut. She was the first African American woman to travel into space. Mae Carol Jemison was one of seven crews aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour on a mission, named STS-47. In this mission, she served as a mission specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour. During this mission, she orbited the Earth for nearly eight days on September 12–20, 1992. Mae Carol Jemison served in the Peace Corps from 1985 until 1987, after completing her medical school and a brief general practice. She resigned from NASA in 1993 to found a company researching the application of technology to daily life. she wrote several books and also appeared in many television several times, including as an actress in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. She was a good dancer. She holds nine honorary doctorates in science, engineering, letters, and the humanities.
